The Drug Discovery and Development Journey

Our journey from concept to life-changing medicine is a rigorous, multi-stage process driven by scientific inquiry and a commitment to safety and efficacy. This typically involves:

• Identification & Validation: Our researchers identify specific biological pathways, molecules, or mechanisms linked to diseases in humans or animals. We then validate these targets to ensure they are crucial for disease progression and amenable to drug intervention.
• Lead Discovery & Optimization:Through high-throughput screening and advanced computational modeling, we identify potential compounds ("hits") that interact with our validated targets. These hits are then optimized to improve their potency, selectivity, and drug-like properties, leading to "lead candidates.
• Preclinical Development: Promising lead candidates undergo extensive laboratory (in vitro) and animal (in vivo) testing. This phase assesses their safety, efficacy, pharmacokinetics (what the body does to the drug), and pharmacodynamics (what the drug does to the body), preparing them for human or extensive animal trials.
• Clinical Trials (for Human Pharmaceuticals): For human-focused drugs, successful preclinical candidates progress to rigorous clinical trials conducted in phases:
  • Phase I:Small group of healthy volunteers to assess safety, dosage, and side effects.
  • Phase II: Larger group of patients to evaluate effectiveness and continue safety monitoring.
  • Phase III: .Large-scale studies comparing the new drug to existing treatments or placebo, confirming efficacy and safety in diverse populations
  • Phase IV (Post-Market Surveillance): Ongoing monitoring after regulatory approval to gather long-term data on safety and effectiveness.
• Regulatory Approval: Throughout the development process, we work closely with regulatory bodies (such as MHRA Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency) to ensure all research and manufacturing processes adhere to the highest Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP) and Good Clinical Practice (GCP) standards. This culminates in submitting comprehensive data for approval to market the new drug.
